The Situation
Riverkin develops sensor-based water monitoring technology that provides continuous insight into water and fine sediment dynamics in rivers, streams, and hydropower environments.
As the company prepared for its next stage of growth, they sought non dilutive funding from the Innosuisse Startup Innovation Project program in order to finance the last product innovation steps before market entry. Part of the project was a sharpening of their beachhead market in hydropower from the multiple good options and use cases their technology is relevant for.
Our Approach
Alfred worked with Riverkin on the Innosuisse grant application, helping to craft a compelling narrative and clearly positioned business plan.
Together with Riverkin’s team, Alfred worked on market segmentation, identified the most relevant target industries, and sharpened the strategic focus on hydropower. We clarified the value proposition for hydropower operators, mapped revenue streams, and strengthened the financial model to show the real commercial potential of the technology.
The work helped connect Riverkin’s technical capabilities with a clear market need: continuous, sensor-based insight into water and fine sediment dynamics that can integrate into digital data pipelines and support better operational decision-making.
The Impact
Riverkin successfully secured a CHF 1.28 million Innosuisse grant to accelerate its expansion into the hydropower sector.
The funding will support the productization and validation of Riverkin’s water monitoring technology in demanding real-world hydropower environments. By focusing on the operational challenges hydropower stakeholders face every day, Riverkin can further demonstrate how its technology helps operators protect critical infrastructure, maintain reservoir capacity, and meet regulatory requirements.
The project marks an important step in Riverkin’s journey from promising research innovation to validated industry solution, supporting its expansion across the Swiss hydropower market and beyond.
"I wouldn't trust any other company in Switzerland to handle our grant submissions. We worked directly with Diego and Geoffrey to submit a large grant proposal to Innosuisse. Both were extremely diligent, thorough, brought helpful ideas, and constructive criticism. All in the name of improving our submission. Their experience and hard work led us to winning the grant! Looking forward to collaborating with them again." Jessica Droujko, Founder and CEO, Riverkin
